Ryan Paul Whitaker
A Life With A Legacy

The Ryan Paul Whitaker Memorial Foundation was established in 2007 by Ryan's loving mother, Paula Whitaker, shortly after his death. Ryan was 25 years old when he passed away. The foundation was established with the Mission of showing Jesus Christ's love to others in continuing Ryan's mission in life "to help hurting people and those in need." The goal of The Foundation is to leave a Legacy of Ryan's short lived life and to bring Glory to God in everything that is done.

THE DAY MY LIFE CHANGED

On January 29, 2007, I lost my only son, Ryan Paul Whitaker. Ryan was only 25 years old when he died. I’ve learned that grief can turn to healing when we relinquish some of the pain and helplessness we feel after reeling from the loss and when we shift our thoughts to what WE can do to honor that person’s memory. The best remembrance of a loved one is to carry on what that person stood for and that is what I am doing for my son, Ryan.

Ryan Whitaker had a heart as big as Texas. He loved people and he wanted to help people everywhere he went. Twelve days before his death, Ryan told his Mother that he wanted to go back to school at Lone Star College, Tomball and study to become a nurse. When his mother asked him why? He stated, "I just want to help people, Mom."

Ryan's words, "I want to help people," has given Paula direction for her life now - to honor God by honoring Ryan's memory and his last wishes. In keeping with Ryan's desire, TOMAGWA Health Care Ministries, Lone Star College Nursing Scholarships, Tomball Regional Art Council Scholarships,Shattered Lives Program, Kenya South Africa Missions, Salem Lutheran Ministries, Tomball Pregnancy Center, and Tomball Rotary were chosen as a way to carry on Ryan's last wishes and to show the Love of Jesus by helping people in need. Those who need physical. emotional, and spritual care through excellent medical care and ministry benefitted and will continue to benefit through Ryan's Life and Legacy.

The Ryan Paul Whitaker Memorial Foundation is based on the desires of the benefactor and on the following scripture:
"I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you took me in ... I was sick and you ministered unto me... The Lord said, I tell you the truth, whenever you have done these things unto the least of these my brothers, you have done it unto Me." Matthew 25:40

What is TOMAGWA?

  • TOMAGWA is a nominal fee, family practice clinic that provides medical services regardless of race, creed, ethnicity, religion affiliation or the ability to pay.
  • Last year, more than 150 dedicated professional and service oriented volunteers along with a small staff provided over 8,700 family member visits, from babies to grandparents, who could not afford medical care and were without health insurance, Medicare or Medicaid.
  • Over 85 percent of the uninsured in our community live in a household where one or more family members work full time.
  • Our clinic provides the necessary medical assistance to those who might go without care; the repercussions of lack of medical access affects every single one of us - crowded ER's, rising insurance premiums, and most importantly neighbors and children in our community at great medical risk.  With TOMAGWA HealthCare Ministries there is hope and care.

LIVING A LIFE WITH A LEGACY

Our legacy is something we leave behind that does good for humanity. It is what we leave that is evidence that we did some good in our lives and that we helped others and we made a contribution to make our world a better place to live. Nothing is as important as the things we do for God and others. Those are the things that last….
